NEW YORK – Bünyamin Sürmeli – New York Police Department (NYPD) officers arrested 133 protesters at New York University (NYU) yesterday in an attempt to disperse students as demonstrations in support of Palestine spread across US campuses.
The students who set up tents on the university campus and expanded their protests, the tents of the students on the NYU campus were dispersed by the NYPD police intervention.
After the intervention, the protesting students came to Police Plaza and continued their demonstration there.
The Gaza protests that began last week between Columbia University President Minouche Shafik and students have spread to other universities.
As protesting youth rallied support from other campuses, US President Joe Biden’s recent approval of a $26 billion aid package to Israel further escalated the protests.
Pro-Palestinian protesters chanted “Stop the genocide, Free Gaza, Free Palestine, Israel tell me how many children did you kill today” throughout the demonstration.
The student protesters continued to call for a ceasefire to restore peace in Palestine and said they would continue demonstrating until their demands were met.
