Climate activists gathered in Europe are cycling from Paris to Baku to draw attention to global warming.
Three climate activists who set off on their bicycles from the French capital, Paris, were greeted by a group of cycling enthusiasts in Istanbul’s Barbaros Square. In his speech, activist Guillaume Outrage emphasized the importance of cycling in solving climate change.
Explaining that they wanted to draw attention to the need to increase the use of bicycles for transportation in order to reduce global warming, Outrage said, “The most important point is that if the use of bicycles increases by 20 percent, carbon emissions decrease by a very important 8 percent. That is why we need to emphasize it.”
Önder Algedik, who welcomed the activists, said that about $814 billion of fossil fuels have been imported and consumed in Turkey in the last 20 years.
After their program in Turkey, the group members will cycle to Georgia and Baku.
