A recent report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) highlights that women-led enterprises have become significant drivers of economic growth and gender equality worldwide. These businesses contribute over $4 trillion annually to the global economy and employ millions, particularly in emerging markets.
Despite persistent challenges such as limited access to finance and discriminatory social norms, women entrepreneurs have shown resilience and innovation, especially in sectors like technology, agriculture, and services. The report calls for increased policy support, including tailored financing options and mentorship programs.
ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo stated, “Empowering women entrepreneurs is not only a matter of fairness but also a powerful engine for sustainable development. Advancing gender equality in business accelerates progress toward multiple SDGs.”
Governments and international organizations are urged to implement comprehensive strategies that address barriers and leverage the potential of women-led enterprises to foster inclusive economic growth.
