NEW YORK – Bünyamin Sürmeli – The protests in support of Palestine at Columbia University in New York City have entered their second week. Negotiations between the school administration and students have failed to reach a compromise, and the protests continue.
The university administration stated that the protests created an undesirable environment for the campus community and gave the students a deadline to leave the campus. However, the students ignored the call and continued to demonstrate in support of Palestine.
During this process, it is noteworthy that members of the press filled the campus for fear that the NYPD would intervene again. However, students continued to demonstrate with slogans and banners in support of Palestine.
These developments at Columbia University coincide with ongoing demonstrations in support of Palestine at universities across the US. The demonstrations at Columbia University have spread to other campuses across the country and have become a broad student movement. Student demonstrations in support of Palestine continue at more than 50 major universities across the US.
