A coalition of international organizations, city governments, and private sector leaders announced a new initiative aimed at reducing air pollution in megacities around the world. The Urban Clean Air Partnership (UCAP) seeks to implement integrated strategies focusing on transportation, green spaces, and industrial emissions.
Urban air pollution remains one of the leading environmental health risks, contributing to millions of premature deaths annually. The partnership intends to leverage innovative technologies such as real-time air quality monitoring, electric public transit, and urban planning reforms to create healthier city environments.
“Collaboration among stakeholders is crucial to tackle the complex challenges of urban pollution,” said Michael Chen, UCAP’s program director. “Our goal is to develop scalable solutions that improve air quality and promote sustainable urban living.”
The initiative aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and plans to pilot projects in cities across Asia, Africa, and Latin America starting later this year.
