Three day climate protest near Windsor Castle by Extinction Rebellion

(SDG TALKING) – Dilek Kaya – Climate activist group Extinction Rebellion (XR) has ended three days of protests near Windsor Castle.

XR activists set up unauthorized tents, stages and loudspeakers in Windsor Home Park on Friday, the BBC reported. On Saturday and Sunday, they marched to the gates of the royal residence in Berkshire.

Some of the protesters carried placards calling on King Charles to speak out more in the future, citing his past support for environmental campaigns.

XR said it was in contact with local authorities about the peaceful protests. Thames Valley Police were deployed to ensure public safety during the protest.

XR explained that the Upgrade Democracy event was organized to demand a town hall meeting on the environment. “At our mass meeting, the highlight of the weekend, we demonstrated the power of deliberative democracy in action. We made the case for a citizens’ assembly on climate and environmental justice so that politicians can accelerate urgent climate action,” said a spokesperson for the group.
