Antalya prepares for COP31
Antalya, Türkiye, is scheduled to host COP31 from 9 to 20 November 2026. In its conference briefing updated on 3 November 2026, the World Meteorological Organization sets out how it plans to support negotiations with climate observations and scientific information. The conference is upcoming; the programme describes planned activity rather than completed outcomes.
Science on the conference agenda
WMO plans to launch its State of Climate update 2026 on Earth Information Day, 9 November 2026. The assessment will cover climate indicators and their impacts, providing scientific information for the Parties.
Other planned discussions cover investment in Earth observations, greenhouse-gas concentrations, heat and health, early warnings and the response to El Niño. WMO links these contributions to the incoming presidency’s action agenda and the need for sustained scientific capacity.
Early warnings and resilience
The organization presents early-warning systems as a way to strengthen resilience and emphasizes investment in services that protect communities. Its conference submissions also prioritize systematic observations and climate information for adaptation, national plans and investment decisions.
For readers following the negotiations, the immediate distinction is between the published programme and eventual decisions: planned presentations and policy priorities do not establish that an agreement has already been reached.
